Software Development Engineer in Test ( SDET)

This is a fantastic opportunity to work for one of the UK’s most exciting start-up brands. In the past 18 months, the business has grown by over 130 people and has managed to hire a fantastic mix of Software/Site Reliability/Data Engineers and SDET’s. We’re now looking to grow the testing team by hiring two experienced SDET’s to come on board and help them build a first-class software platform.

We’re looking for SDET’s who can champion, lead and implement best practices to ensure they can continue to use CI/CD and develop at pace with confidence. You will need to have a keen understanding of a variety of automated testing techniques, and how that applies to distributed systems architecture. As a business they believe in – testing/releasing early & often, keeping manual testing to a minimum, continuous improvement (through techniques like route cause analysis), ‘zero defects philosophy’, testing in production & using metrics and feedback to guide efforts.

Your responsibilities as SDET will include:

  • Champion test strategy for highly distributed systems, supporting both web & mobile
  • Build a consistent test strategy across multiple teams & help to build and execute the strategy for testing in production
  • Follow latest test patterns and make appropriate recommendations
  • Understand the services offered by cloud platform providers and in particular Azure. Always looking at new ways to push quality.
  • Actively develop new internal tools for testing
  • Support efforts to ensure appropriate levels of scalability (load testing/performance testing)

To be considered for these SDET opportunities you’ll need to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • 3 + years in a similar position or have an interest moving from a Software Engineer into an SDET role
  • C# and/or .NET Core
  • TDD & BDD
  • Microservices architecture
  • CI/CD

If you have any of the following experience, then it would be massively desirable:

  • Messaging Systems (e.g. Azure Service Bus)
  • JavaScript/TypeScript & tooling (e.g. Cypress, Jest etc)
  • Azure DevOps
  • Mobile app testing automation (React Native)
  • Security conscious & aware of OWASP

The role will be fully remote working (you may occasionally need to travel into the Birmingham office) and there’s a salary range of between £50-65,000 depending on experience. Even though the role is remote, the business is fully focused on staff engagement and ensuring there’s a great team culture. Teams regularly keep in contact through a variety of sources and they do run online socials, including online gaming sessions and quizzes etc (if you haven’t had enough of quizzes this lockdown!).

Front End Angular Developer

Following a great end to 2020 a Birmingham City centre based company are growing their team. They are looking for someone to take a lead role making key decisions on the front end of one of their most popular products.

We are looking for a skilled Front End Developer with some knowledge of UI or UX who is keen to step into a role that will give them complete autonomy – a real chance to take full ownership and guide the business on best practice.

To be considered for the Front End Developer role you will need;

  • A minimum of two years experience within a Front End role
  • Extensive knowledge of Front End coding
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Angular (version 9 would be beneficial)
  • Good understanding of cross browsers and responsive design
  • Experience with starting projects from scratch, e.g. source control, automated builds and deployments.

Senior SRE Engineer

My client, a market-leading European Fintech business, who have developed an award-winning AI Platform are looking for a Senior SRE Engineer to join their team. They’ve had an incredible 2020, with the first half of the year net profit up 103% and operating profit up 94%. They’re going through a really exciting period of growth within the software team, with them hiring for multiple Engineers, across Development and Data – this Senior SRE Engineer role is seen as a key hire for them.

The Site Reliability Engineering team is currently Mid-Level heavy, and the CTO has identified a need for a Senior SRE Engineer to come in and help drive process and provide a strategic view, as well as mentoring the other members of the team. The kind of personality they’re looking for is somebody who’s not afraid of saying “I don’t know the answer to that, but let me go and do some research and come back with some viable options” and has a real drive and can-do attitude. That goes for the experience/knowledge below – if you don’t have everything listed then I’d still like to have a chat!

The focus for the Senior SRE Engineer will include:

  • Minimising downtime to products & services
  • Ensuring the platform is scalable and completely automated
  • Shortening Development Lifecycles
  • Bridging the gap between Operations and R&D

Therefore, ideally you’ll have experience of:

  • Configuration Management tools – such as Ansible, CFEngine, Chef, Puppet, Salt
  • Managed & Implemented large server migrations to Docker containers
  • Worked on modern release pipelines – CI/CD Production
  • Knowledge/Experience of a core programming language – .NET, Java etc
  • Use of modern CI/CD tools for delivery and automation, such as Azure DevOps
  • Linux/Unix/Windows System Administration

The package available includes a £65,000 basic salary (may be negotiable for the right candidate), Pension Scheme, Vitality health Insurance, 25 days holiday and Remote/Flexible working options. At the moment the role will be fully remote – the idea eventually is to bring the team back into the Birmingham city centre offices. Ideally they’d like people to be there a couple of days per week, but can be flexible so please let me know if you need more flexibility.
